Have you ever wondered what special you can do on a winter Saturday morning? Yes, you can sail! Else, you can come and hang out with the different sailors who specialize in frostbite sailing. The volunteers for the race committee is always an open task and this can be an amazing way to gain some experience and some contacts with some of the most powerful racers on the planet.
The Club is hosting the frostbite racing in Manhattan for the third year now, and this is going stronger than ever. The dinghy docks which are meant to be an all-purpose thingy have been moved to the position. Both the volunteers and the sailors gather at the Club sharp at around 9:30 am on a Saturday morning. The boats will be rigged later on and a few races in the bitter cold will be held.

On Day 11 of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, the fleet is in an interesting space following the crossing of the equator. The North Easterly trade winds as expected have arrived. The top three sides on the fleet remain unchanged with Qingdao still in the lead. However, Dare To Lead is following closely in second place, just two nautical miles behind.
The captain of Qingdao Chris Kobusch says they are excited that the wind is here and they get to sail at 10+ knots towards Sanya. He adds that they would have to navigate a few islands littered across the next 300 nautical miles. He says he hopes to return someday to those islands on another occasion to dive as the sights and experiences would be spectacular.

Freak weather conditions deter the Autumn Sailing Series 2017 for Belfast Lough. This is a sailing tournament that is usually sponsored by Mackey Opticians. There was a sad finale that happened to this tournament yesterday as Storm Brian played spoil sport for the same. There was an initial plan to run two consecutive races as per Ruan O’Tiarnaigh who was the presiding race officer. However, only three out of the proposed six races could be concluded. This was due to the effects of Storm Ophelia, which happened on Sunday morning as well as the windless days that preceded it. However, fleet was able to make use of the 30 knots steady wind conditions that existed in between. As a result a close race was achieved in the three races that took place.
The race was ended with three races as it was decided that it is important that none of the boats get damaged. IRC handicap was applied for different sizes and classes of vessels such as the First 40 Giggle, 38 foot Indigo, 44 foot Hanse Grey Goose and so forth. These vessels competed against smaller vessels as well. Some boats were manned by young crew members, among them Stratus Sailing won in a certain class by three points.
There was a Belfast Lough Quarter Ton class as well, which had a good turnout considering the weather and water conditions. There was a Sigma class that had close racing as well. Overall, therewere quite a lot of close races as the overall race duration was reduced. However, if the weather conditions were better viewers would have had a better experience witnessing the vessels competing against each other. However, as sailing goes, it has been forever dependent on weather which remains unpredictable at best and forecasts are accurate only when the series is already finalized.
Regional Development Officer and Coordinator of Irish Sailing for the Women Gail MacAllister, on the Water Ireland (WOWI) program had a talk with Helen Cooney.
In her talk, she discussed about how the program is executed at the National Yacht Club (NYC).
The program WOWI was launched by the Irish Sailing in 2011 with an objective to create more opportunities for women to train, learn and compete on the water. After the introduction of this program, a number of women from all over the country have been introduced to sailing. And the only person who is heading this program is Helen Cooney; she is also a volunteer from the National Yacht Club (NYC).
Helen did not have any sailing background, but at the age of 14, she started sailing in a Mirror dinghy in Lough Derg Yacht Club. Form her experience only she is aware that this could be a great family sport.
Helen acted as the Junior Organiser in the NYC for many years; she worked as a physiotherapist and did a great job in bringing up the young families in the sailing. The two practice sessions that have been held in the Bermuda waters in preparation for the America’s Cup 35th series have seen Artemis Racing staying in strong form.
The Great Sound of Bermuda is the venue for the event as well as the practice sessions that have been held. For the Artemis Racing team comprising of Iain Percy as skipper along with his mates on Magic Blue catamaran, have been emerging as strong contenders for America’s Cup. They hold onto the memory of their crew member, Andrew Simpson aka Bart, who is no longer with them as he was killed in a training accident that occurred about four years back.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society organized the 2016th edition of Leukemia Cup Regattas with objective spread awareness about Leukemia disease and to raise funds for the cause.
At the regatta over 100 sailors represented who were among the top fundraisers.
The event held on 3rd December and participants who took part in sailing; sailed in PHRF boats that belonged to Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club and Harbor 20s. The event took place in Newport Beach, CA. As the objective of the event to spread awareness about disease, Leukemia, so participants also learned some information about it.
Wes Selby, who owned TNT, a 1D48 won the championship. Sailing teams were not without challenges as the week of races have started for them in the Rio Olympics games. The US team in Rio de Janeiro had been preparing for months in order to get familiar with the tidal cycles and wind patterns in the Guanabara Bay. On the second day of racing the team experienced light wind that made it difficult for the races to begin. The early races in the five different categories were defined by tactical parameters that were treacherous. The races on the second day took place in the Guanabara Bay area.

struggled in the early stages on this day, but he was able to make a good comeback on the opening race in the heavyweight Finn class for men. He stated that the race was exciting as the breeze was coming in from both directions and it would die down and build up again. He is a champion in the Sailing World Cup series

Hodgdon Yacht Services, the Hodgdon division that is committed to refit, repair and maintenance services of recreational yachts and boats, recently acquitted refit and repair work on 46.9 meter ketch Asolare at the facilities in Boothbay in Maine.
Started in the year 2003 by Hodgdon Yachts, Bruce King designed vessel, with interior design by Winch Design, was the largest cold-molded yacht ever made at that time. Hodgdon chief executive officer and President Timothy Hodgdon, said that as the real builders of Asolare, they are happy that they were able to complete this important repair work.
The company’s link to this yacht – combined with their technical expertise – uniquely positioned them for the execution of this project.
The work included substitute of the mizen mast, fixes to the astern cabin and deck regions, extensive sustentation to the sea water, electrical power, hydraulic as well as mechanical systems, along with a climb to the computerized sail handling checks.

Ambjent Ahjar’s John Cauchi stated that he saw no coherent progress between the place selection as well as the final choice. He stated that Fort St Rocco could be a great candidate site, mainly when it is melded with nearby places. Dock No. 1 has less than half of the region then the Forti Saint Rocco.
